Family vacation was spent in the Hunsrück area in Germany this year. This region is packed with aviation. One example is the private owned Hermeskeil museum or in German Flugausstellung Hermeskeil. It is Europe's largest private aviation museum. The last time I visited this nice museum was back in 1998 ! So it was time for an update. I went to the museum with my son Niek. Openinghours are from 10.00 till 17.00 hrs from April 1st till November 1st. Entrancefee is Euro 9,00 per person. They have a great collection inside and outside of about a hundred aircaft, for the greater part military. Also a collection of ejection seats and a collection of aircraft engines are on display.

There were not many people visiting the museum so with a little patience most of the collection could be photographed. Absolute showstoppers are the ex-RAF Comet C4, Russian Mi-6, ex-United Arab VC-10, and the different USAF F-4's. Besides the obvious ex German hardware also a lot of ex RAF aircraft can be found at Hermeskeil.

Even a Concorde can be found but this is a replica and serves as a Restaurant ! Civil wise the L-1049 Constellation D-ALIN in Lufthansa colours and Viscount 814 D-ANAM also in Lufthansa colours are the highlights. In the dump area also some aircraft can be found like F-84F DD+380 and a F-104G and Mig-21.

In all a great museum and I hope to visit it more often in the near future.
